This project falls within the scope of clinical application of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. Ultrasound medicine has developed to an indispensable part of clinical practice, and the continuous emergence of new technologies provides strong support for accurate diagnosis and treatment of clinical diseases. Ultrasound elastography is a new type of ultrasound technology that assesses the elasticity of blood vessels and soft tissues and distinguishes between benign and malignant tissues. This project innovatively introduces this technology into the field of traditional Chinese medicine (pulse diagnosis, acupuncture, TCM syndrome differentiation treatment), exploring new pathways for modernization of traditional Chinese medicine. As the first unit in China to introduce Wave Intensity (WI) technology, the project team was among the first in the country to publish papers related to WI, to discuss the naming, principles, and significance of WI indicators, and to correct the erroneous understanding of waveform timing by foreign scholars, defining the timing and meaning of waveforms such as W1, W1-W2, and R-W1. Innovatively introduce WI technology into pulse diagnosis research, explaining the mechanism of pulse from both kinetic and potential energy aspects. Combine WI technology with two pulse instruments to synchronously analyze the pulse parameters of the radial artery, cun position, and foot yang position, demonstrating the scientific nature of three-part pulse diagnosis. Add blood flow information to the original pulse instrument, enriching the amount of information in pulse research. Introduce shear wave elastography technology into acupuncture research, non-invasively obtain standard cross-sections of multiple acupoints on the body of normal people, providing an objective basis for clinical acupuncture. Quantitatively analyze the local tension changes at acupoints before and after 'qi acquisition' in acupuncture, exploring the mechanism of 'qi acquisition' in acupuncture. Carry out basic research on new technologies for vascular elasticity detection, including the principles of Vascular Echo Tracking Technology (E-Tracking, ET), Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV), WI, and other technologies. Experimental research on methodology, the meaning of parameters, and influencing factors has been conducted. Currently, the operational methods of ET technology by project teams have been widely promoted as standards in China. The innovative combination of Doppler ultrasound probes and pulse wave sensors for detecting PWV in arterial vessels has expanded the application range of ultrasonic devices and reduced medical costs. A total of 628 patients with various diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, etc., were examined for vascular elasticity of carotid and lower limb arteries to detect vascular lesions early, explore predisposing factors, and provide objective basis for clinical classification and treatment of traditional Chinese medicine. The project has published 57 papers, with a total of 699 citations, obtained 2 utility model patent authorizations, published 1 book, and delivered over 20 keynote speeches at international and national academic conferences. It has trained 6 graduate students and 25 postgraduate students. In Shanghai, the project has been supported by the Shuguang Hospital of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Affiliated Tongji Hospital of Tongji Medical University. Yueyang Hospital and other hospitals such as Putuo District Central Hospital have promoted the application, achieving good results in early intervention of vascular lesions and significant social benefits.
