This technology has been extensively validated through field testing and parallel comparative studies with standard microbial analytical methods. The fully automatic microbial detection system utilizes proprietary free patents (based on polymer optical sensors) to achieve this through the construction of 'polymer optical compartments' within each test sleeve. Each test sleeve contains a specific amount of culture medium that provides nutrients for the target bacteria in the water sample. When target bacteria such as Escherichia coli begin to reproduce, they produce a special enzyme that reacts with the proprietary chemical culture medium in the sleeve, causing the medium to release fluorescent molecules. These fluorescent molecules act as indicators and rapidly move from the water sample to the polymer optical sensors within the sleeve.
